The Terminal
The terminal. Ohhh… the terminal. What can one even say about the terminal? I think coming to Linux this was the scariest thing for me, even before I knew what it was. In fact, I find it pretty interesting that despite the fact that absolutely everything seems to be done with the terminal it’s only very rarely that you stumble across what the heck it actually is, and where it is. I mean, I don’t even want to say how confused I was when someone on a forum told me to crack open a terminal.
On Fedora 9, I did manage to stumble across it eventually. It’s right here in fact:
Yep, I’m not going to tell you how much hunting it took to find that, suffice to say it was really freaking pathetic.
So, what do you do with this terminal thing? Quite a number of things, in Fedora, it looks like almost anything can be done either graphically (that is, the way you’d do it in Windows) or via the command line. The command line being the preferred method amongst enthusiasts.
